Get to know Maya Tate
As a young girl, Maya Tate was fascinated by fashion and accessories. At the age of 6 she was taught to sew and crochet by her seamstress/designer grandmother, Lizzie. She enjoyed visiting her grandmother who allowed her to sew small scrapes of fabrics together and tag along to pick out fabric. To complete a look, Maya knew accessories were needed to make an outfit come together which inspired her to begin making jewelry as a child. Over the years, she focused her energy on other interests which lead her to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. After graduating from college, she came full circle and began making jewelry, sewing, and crocheting once again; she taught herself to knit along the way. She re-discovered her love for unique patterns, textures, and mixing colors. The appreciation of classic aesthetic and modernism has driven Maya to create one of a kind quality statement pieces that are timeless, sleek, and/or bold. Maya Tate prides herself in her eclecticism, the ability to pay close attention to detail, selecting natural stones, semi-precious gems, incorporating eco-friendly and culturally sourced materials from around the world, and learning new techniques to create jewelry at an affordable price range that can be worn by younger and older individuals.
